Two
separate courts today issued arrest warrants for BNP Senior Vice-Chairman
Tarique Rahman in two defamation cases filed against him for calling
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman a 'top Razakar'. Metropolitan Magistrate in Dhaka
Md Mahbubur Rahman ordered his arrest after accepting a case filed by Monir
Hossain Mollah, a Jubo League leader of Dhaka (North) unit, today.
The
court also asked the officer-in-charge of Paltan Police Station to submit a
progress report on the execution of the arrest warrant by January 22 next year.
Meanwhile, the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Towhidul Islam in Dinajpur
issued an arrest warrant for Tarique hours after another case was filed by Arun
Kanti, Bangladesh Chhatra League president of Hajee Danesh University unit.
In
Magura, Advocate Babul Akter filed a defamation suit was filed with the Senior
Judicial Magistrate Court in Madaripur against the BNP leader.
Magistrate
Nurun Nahar accepted the case and decided to pass an order on it later in the
day. Freedom fighters in Chittagong at a rally today demanded Tarique’s
punishment after bringing him back from abroad for his derogatory remarks
against Bangabandhu.
On
December 15, Tarique said Sheikh Mujib was a “big Razakar” for having banned the
Awami League dubbing it a party of thieves himself. The elder son of BNP
Chairperson Khaleda Zia was speaking at a discussion programme, arranged by
local BNP unit, at The Atrium in East London on the occasion of Victory Day.
In
Dhaka, arrest warrants were issued against Tarique yesterday in three cases
filed for the derogatory remarks about Bangabandhu. He was sued in different
other districts across the country over the same allegation.
