Doug
Wood has long been recognized as one of the most skilled criminal defense
attorneys in the metropolitan area. For over 35 years he has been obtaining
acquittals for clients through an aggressive courtroom presence. Referred to as
the "Defendant's Defender" in a 2002 profile in the region's highest
circulating newspaper, Mr. Wood was described as consistently besting police
and prosecutors in high profile cases with a "straight forward, take no
prisoners approach."
Douglas
Wood has been defending people in criminal cases for nearly 35 years. After
being admitted to practice law in 1977, he joined the elite ranks of the
District of Columbia Public Defender Service as a trial attorney. From 1977 to
1984, he handled hundreds of criminal cases for the Public Defender Service, including
traffic and DUI charges, juvenile matters, misdemeanors and serious felonies.
In
1985, Mr. Wood entered private practice, forming the litigation firm of Roberts
& Wood in Prince George’s County, Maryland, where he continues to handle
criminal cases in the state and federal courts of Maryland and the District of
Columbia. His cases range from minor misdemeanors, such as traffic and simple
drug cases; to the most complex felonies, including rape, robbery and murder.
Mr.
Wood is widely recognized as one of the top criminal defense attorney’s in the
D.C. metropolitan area. In a January, 2000 article entitled Standout Lawyers
and Judges, the Washington Post stated as follows: “Long known as one of the
best criminal defense attorney’s in the county, Riverdale lawyer Douglas J.
Wood had one of his best years in 1999, winning outright acquittals in four
murder trials in Prince George’s County Circuit Court.”
There
are few lawyers with the trial experience of Douglas Wood. He has had over 50
jury trials in homicide cases alone. Overall, he has defended clients in many
hundreds of trials with great success. As a testament to that success, he was
profiled in the Washington Post in an article entitled The Defendant’s
Defender; High Profile Private Lawyer Excels at Getting Acquittals for the
Accused.
